As I Think

Precious Lord may I come to Your throne
for I must confess what You have known
Lord You know that something is askew
I cannot fool You with anything I may do

It is this heart of mine that goes astray
part of it continues to go the wrong way
When it wanders I think wrong thoughts
as if it is okay as long as I'm not caught

You Lord are the One who examines me
and You know as a man thinks so is he
Lord help me for I'm just fooling myself
You see me lusting after other fools' pelf

Forgive me for unclean rooms in my inn
inviting You to abide midst unseemly sin
Do I believe You will live there in peace
if I leave one area dirty and don't cease

I hear the world's words in a lively beat
with no fear of Your Word nor my defeat
Let me examine what takes up my time
does it bring famine faking to be sublime

Lord make me whole and rid me of clutter
every turn I take and each word I mutter
What value has any part I'd keep secretly
this heart is for You for as I think I will be
