When David faced Goliath Lord You were there
his courage astounded those who could only stare
Even David's older brother thought it all for show
those who thought David a fool surely didn't know

When Daniel faced the lions Lord You were there
men of lesser faith would have faced quite a scare
For this man who knelt three times a day to pray
lions' mouths were shut so no danger were they

When the Apostles were in jail Lord You were there
an angel sent by You was more than bars could bear
These men who only desired to keep Your commands
would not stop serving You even in enemies' hands

When we were lost in every way Lord You were there
You had always known we would feel Satan's snare
We needed You then we need You now and forever
if not for You Lord our lives are fruitless endeavors

Long before creation's time Lord You were there
because You are God oh Lord You are everywhere
You knew us ere we were Lord and loved us then
salvation is ours Lord in spite of where we've been

You were there Lord before all time and all days
before light of the moon before sun's bright rays
You are here Lord You supply everything we need
as we turn to You Lord You are ever there indeed
