Feeding The Two

Almighty God Creator of earth sun and moon
might it not be too late for my soul to attune
I'm here to confess I've stepped into the dark
what has crept in has left a mess as its mark

I have not been careful in what entertains me
after having dared to ignore sin's gains ruefully
One foot in darkness and the other foot in Light
a starkness of soot and white blends into blight

This Lord is the story of the line I've straddled
as I inventory how signs of sin left me saddled
Mine is the picture of the stains I have allowed
over this mixture I've designed remains a cloud

Father God why would I think I could survive
while bothering to let even a wink of sin thrive
Evil said I could have my cake and eat it too
and I would still make do by feeding the two

A northbound ox can't wear southbound's yoke
nor has man found God bound into evil's cloak
My fate is sealed when I ask sin for one dance
too late revealed is that it now has its chance

Light and darkness have not a common union
Almighty God hearken my plea for communion
When evil seeks to woo and cleverly blind me
then I will keep to Thy path forever sublimely
