"Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips."
Psalms 141:3

Guard the Words I Say

Denis Brent Rees

Oh Dear Lord who can I cry out to but You
You know why sealing of my lips is overdue
It is not just so I haven't a voice of profanity
but so mine will not be of boisterous vanity

Lord be my Sentry who guards the words I say
may the entry of my mouth not be harsh today
Lord how I desire for You to control these lips
and I am in dire need before this tongue slips

I speak my piece Oh Lord before I stop to pray
wreaking havoc with peace by the words I say
My mouth is Yours Lord until I cannot contain
then all goes south as words of my will rain

Why Lord am I unable to keep this orifice shut
my words are able to seep harm dis and cut
Things I say often lead to a hurtful dissension
and what I blurt brings more hurt and tension

Lord I know Your will yet I am non-compliant
for I show it is still I upon whom I am reliant
Evil wants me to vent the venom of my spleen
but I was not mean to come across as mean

Lord let me not say one word not reflecting You
on my own I've been heard disrespecting You too
May I never again say a thing to cause You shame
because whatever I relay is to glorify Your Name

In The Name of Christ Jesus

Amen!
