"Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you. Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you."
Luke 6:27b-28
Hard Lesson to Learn
Denis Brent Rees
Oh Dear Father we want to please You in every way
but do we have to love our enemies right here today
Father have You not seen how cruel they have been
as mules they are as stubborn now as they were then
Father we are not seeking some means to disobey
rather we seem to be weakening and seek a delay
Is there no other command we can promise to keep
please understand loving enemies is too much a leap
We are truly not like we know of the angels above
although our duty it is so unlike us to give this love
Lord be inside us to guide us to provide us strength
for those who spite us and divide us go to any length
Father God take our hearts up to this new dimension
no parts of Your Word leave us room for dissension
May our words and actions be much more benevolent
and all of our ways not be distractions but redolent Father this
lesson could be the hardest one learns
unless in one's heart the fire for Your Jesus burns
When it comes to this level of love we are at a loss
'tis somewhat closer to that Thy Son had at the cross
Father do what You must to mold us and remake us
take us just as we are and shape us more like Jesus
Your Son knew the haters the cursers and the accusers
if not too late may we immerse in prayer our abusers
In The Name of Christ Jesus
Amen!
