"Then Esther bade them return to Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night and day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. " Esther 4:15-16

If I Perish

Denis Brent Rees

Lord God grant me the bravery of Esther the Queen
to savor each sense of power that in Esther was seen
For there is a time to be silent and then one to stand
reliant upon Thy powers and what the times demand

Queen Esther gathered all the prayer teams to fast
a gesture deemed worthy so there they amassed
Oh Lord grant me great strength for one such as I
to go forward in faith as did Esther and Mordecai

As I face the demons of the boisterous and proud
those determined to be both roisterous and loud
Let the presence of prayers lift my own attitude
and get a sense You're there even in my solitude

To be timid and tend to quietly go along in wrong
is to deny The Son You sent and to Him I belong
In times of hurtful desperation where sins fester
may I not flirt with evil but have faith like Esther

This one lady made a difference in so many lives
and I can too where shame of a Haman thrives
Lord may my heroes not be a mere fleeting fad
but those with a faith like the Queen Esther had

Oh my Lord God I know not who penned her story
though whomever it was knew to give You the glory
Lord God I pledge to be true to Thee Whom I cherish
forging ahead as the one who said if I perish I perish

In The Name of Christ Jesus

Amen!
