Lesson 369: "Homosexuality"

I am asking you to consult the Holy Spirit before reading this study. It was hard to write but I felt God was urging me into it and have used His own Words. I am not judging nor condemning but simply stating scriptural facts and will pray for anyone in this quagmire and for those dealing with friends and loved ones who are confused about their sexuality.

Homosexuality is the manifestation of sexual desire toward a member of one’s own sex or the erotic activity with a member of the same sex. For a Christian, the bible is the final authority for both belief and behavior. The Apostle Paul, writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declares that homosexuality “shall not inherit the Kingdom of God” (1 Cor. 6:9-10). Then Paul offers hope in being delivered from this practice (1 Cor. 6:11), meaning that anyone who repents of a sin is forgiven; the sin does not send you to hell, the lack of repentance does; “Unless you repent, you too will perish” (Luke 13:3).

Homosexuality simply cannot be viewed as a lifestyle, a fad, a genetic process, a phase in one’s life or a trial to see if God indeed created you “right”! It is bluntly and clearly forbidden by God (Lev. 18:22, 20:13). The Christian can neither altar God’s viewpoint nor depart from it. God created male and female (Gen. 1:27) to be fruitful and increase in number (Gen. 1:28) which is impossible for two of the same sex to accomplish. “Man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife” (Gen. 2:24); no choice given here as to whether you may choose to be “with” the same sex in marriage or in any other scripture in the bible. Sodom and Gomorrah serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire (Jude 7). Note the comparison of the destruction of wicked Sodom destroyed by burning sulfur (Gen. 19:24) and the eternal destruction of wicked man when this world as we know it ends (Rev. 20:10, 15); eternal burning sulfur! Romans 1:26-32 tells us that homosexuals suffer in their bodies and personality and “the act” is described as “vile affection” (Rom. 1:26 KJV). The Greek word for vile (Atimia) means filthy, dirty, evil and dishonorable.

There are support groups for any and everything now and I have nothing against them and understand they do a lot of good for a lot of people. However, the best support group you will find is you and God, in your prayer closet (Matt. 6:6), and taking captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Cor. 10:5-6). God knit you together in your mother’s womb and you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Ps. 139:13-14). If a support group continuously reminds you of your past then perhaps you should step away from it; “forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” (Phil. 3:13). Return to the truth which is God (John 14:6, 17:17) and the truth will set you free (John 8:32) with no regrets and no after effects. If you feel insecure and must have a support group, make sure they are Christians, ministers, church leaders/teachers or counselors. Being with those who are practicing or have practiced or find no fault or find fault but cannot break from homosexuality will not help you since you find yourself thinking you, too, cannot break loose (this is a lie of the devil). “For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness” (2 Cor. 6:14-17)?

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps” (Pro. 16:9). Perhaps one day you decide God has made a mistake in creating you as human and you “think” you are a bee? You climb up into a bee hive to be among “your own”. Do this and I promise you will feel the sting of death! Jesus Christ destroyed the sting of spiritual death (1 Cor. 15:55-57) but ONLY IF you obey His commands. Stay where God planted you and out of the bee hive (1 Cor. 7:17). Be strengthened and encouraged by the Holy Spirit (Acts 9:31b), be a Berean (Acts 17:11), complete the task God gave you of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace (Acts 20:24), keep a clear conscience (Acts 24:16). All have sinned (Rom. 3:23) but God can and will pull you back into His paths and prevent sin from reigning in your mortal body (Rom. 6:11-14). I have faith in God that it will happen just as He told me (Acts 27:25).
