Lesson 377: "Is It Okay To Be Mad At God?"
Why would anyone who is saved by the grace of God (Eph. 2:8), in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins (Eph. 1:7) want to ever be mad at God? “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Cor. 2:9). This love for God is to be with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (Matt. 22:37) because He first loved you enough to send His only Son to die for your sins (John 3:16-18). God has given the believer eternal life and put them in the Son’s Hand for safe keeping (John 10:27-29) and to “be mad at God” is to give the devil a foothold (Eph. 4:26). This same scripture warns us not to let the sun go down while we are still angry so if you find yourself being mad at God make sure you repent, pray for forgiveness and get it right with God before you go to sleep.
God is Sovereign, the Most High God, ruler over every kingdom on earth and gives those kingdoms to anyone He chooses (Dan. 4:25). God said to Moses; “I will show kindness to anyone to whom I want to show kindness and I will show mercy to anyone to whom I want to show mercy” (Rom. 9:14-16) and it adds that His choice does not depend on what people want or try to do so I don’t think it matters to Him if you get “mad at Him” for whatever reason. God does as He pleases (Ps. 115:3); His plan for this earth and mankind is made and cannot be thwarted (Job 42:2). Being angry with God usually comes from not understanding His ways. His thoughts are not like ours and our ways are not like His ways (Is. 55:8). “A wise person knows these things and an understanding person will take them to heart. The Lord’s ways are right” (Hos. 14:9).
The Holy Spirit is proof that you belong to God and being angry at God makes the Holy Spirit sad and this will not be forgiven (Matt. 12:31-32). To grieve the Holy Spirit is to ignore His conviction (John 16:8) and not accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. The Lord knows those who are His and they must turn away from wickedness (2 Tim. 2:19). Anger is included in this “wickedness” and is foolish (Ecc. 7:9) and must be put out of your life (Col. 3:8). If God condemns getting angry at your fellow men then how much more must He be against getting angry at Him?
