Lesson 380: "To Be Sure"
How can you know for sure if you are saved? “And this is the testimony; God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life” (1 John 5:11). “The GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus” (Rom. 6:23). “God’s GIFTS and His call are irrevocable” (Rom. 11:29). “Believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved (John3:16, Acts 16:31). Do you believe that Jesus is the Savior, that He died to pay the penalty for your sins (Rom. 5:8, 2 Cor. 5:21)? Are you trusting Him alone for salvation (Acts 4:10-12)? If your answers are yes, you are saved. Assurance means to put beyond all doubt and by taking God’s Word to heart, you can put beyond all doubt the fact and reality of your eternal salvation. Not temporary but eternal.
We cannot live our Christian lives without the hope that we are truly saved. This is why the Bible makes the plan of salvation clear. Jesus states, regarding those who have believed in Him, “I give them eternal life and they will never perish. No one will snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me and He is more powerful than anyone else. No one can take them from me” (John 10:28-29 NLT). Live with confidence and take joy in what God’s Word is saying to you. “To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy, to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen” (Jude 24-25).
As Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8) so am I in Jesus Christ. Regretfully I fall into the category of sinning and falling short (Rom. 3:23) but repentantly I have neither desire nor intentions of falling from grace (Heb. 12:15). My confidence comes from leaning not on my own understanding but on trusting God (Pro. 3:5). I stand on faith! “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor ruling spirits, nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us, nothing below us nor anything else in the whole world will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. 8:38-39).
