- Why did Jesus tell this parable?

remember that the church age was a mystery. The fact that the Christ was
going to come and then go back to heaven, later to return again, was not
known. Jesus is revealing this fact in this parable.

- Yes, the earth is called home. The main theme of this parable
is that he was going to go away for a long time and that after that time
he would return. Upon his return he will see if his followers have indeed
been faithful. Those that have faithfully obeyed him and were busy doing
his work will be rewarded, and those that have been unfaithful will be
thrown out of his kingdom.

servants around the whole world.

- Yes. When the Lord comes back from heaven he will gather up
his body, the true church, and settle accounts. This is commonly called
the Rapture. The word "rapture" does not appear in the Bible
but nonetheless does describe the event well. The Bible calls the event,
our being gathered to him, and is described elsewhere as occurring in
the blink of an eye. That is what rapture means.
