Luke 12:16-21
And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17 He thought to himself, "What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
18 "Then he said, "This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."'
20 "But God said to him, "You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'
21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God." (NIV)

- Who does the rich man represent?
- Anyone, it is not important.
- A rich Pharisee.
- An Israelite.
- Anyone that puts worldly wealth before God.
- Did the man go to heaven?
- Yes.
- No.
- Who will get the man's stored wealth?
- Who knows, who cares.
- His wife and children.
- The Church.
- The state.
Luke 14:25-27
Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters -- yes, even his own life -- he cannot be my disciple. 27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. (NIV) - What does Jesus mean that we must hate our father, mother, wife,
siblings and children, or he cannot be Jesus' disciple?
- This is just a figure of speech, Jesus doesn't mean anything.
- He means that if any of those people stand between you and Christ, you must not even think about it, you choose Christ.
- He means that you must hate the world and everyone and everything in it.
- What does Jesus mean that we must carry our cross and follow
him?
- He means that we must give up our life, that is, surrender our will, and obey his commands.
- He means that we should literally carry a big cross around as a testimony of him.
- He means that if we really love him we will give up our secular jobs and work solely for the church.
- He means, to be a Christian we must pray the "sinners prayer" and get baptized, and then go to church regularly.
Luke 14:28-30
"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? 29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, 30 saying, "This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.' (NIV) - What does the tower represent?
- Your life.
- Your job.
- Your relationship with Christ.
- Your Church.
- What does it mean to finish the tower?
- It means to remain obedient to Christ through all of life's problems.
- It means that you remain productive until retirement.
- It means that you must finish your fortifications against the powers of darkness.
- It means that if you start a project, such as, building a local church, you must see the project to completion, or you will be a quitter.
Luke 14:31-33
"Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. (NIV) - Who does the king represent?
- Jesus Christ.
- Satan.
- You.
- The Prince of Israel.
- Who does the other king represent?
- God the Father

- What are the terms of peace that Jesus is talking about?
- It doesn't relate to the parable.
- You must surrender your life to God.
- You must stop sinning and go to church.
- What does the size of the kings army represent?
- The angels around you that defend you against Satan's attacks.
- Your commitment to Christ.
- Your standing in the community.
- Your friends at church and in life, that is, those that will stand with you in times of trial.
Luke 14:34-35
"Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (NIV) - Salt is symbolic for what?
- The Word of God.
- Your commitment to Christ.
- Your relationship with church.
- The respect of your peers.
