There are many promises in Scripture that say that the Messiah would come and destroy the nations that are oppressing Israel, and restore Israel's greatness to even greater grandeur than they had under kings David and Solomon. These prophetic promises will be fulfilled at the Lord's Second Coming.

The fact that the Messiah would come more than once was hidden until after the Lord's death and resurrection. The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:8 that Satan would not have crucified Jesus had he known what would follow. It was necessary that God keep it a secret and so he did. This fact has now been revealed, so now we can read in Daniel 9:26 about, the "Anointed One coming but then being cut off and having nothing", and understand what it means. We can read Isaiah 52:13 - Isaiah 53:12 along with the prophecies that speak of the deliverance of Israel, and understand that the Lord comes more than once.

The disciples knew of these promises and so they asked the Lord if now was the time for their fulfillment, but the Lord told them that they were not to know when. He then told them that they would receive the Holy Spirit and that through the revelations brought about through the Spirit that they were to be living witnesses of the Spirit to the world.

God has a plan all laid out, from the beginning to the end. Each and every step will come about exactly as he has determined. The timing of his plan is known only to the Father. God determined long ago, before time began, to reveal to his subjects the effect of rebellion, which results in separation from him. When the plan is completed, we who have believed the Spirit, will be in Heaven with the Father and the Son, and then we will understand all aspects of the plan.

Until then, we walk in the light of what we know, trusting that God will keep us to the end.

Part of God's plan was that he would form a nation from one man and then have that nation act out various aspects of the plan so that all who witness can understand.

God promised to send a deliverer to that nation that would come and save them from the oppression of the evil one. God also determined that Israel would reject the Messiah and would suffer the consequences. Those that truly believed in the Messiah would be blessed.

At the time of God's choosing he will send the Savior back to the earth and he will at that time collect his body, the church, and then set about destroying all that oppose his rule. At the end of the purging time the Lord will officially come and all of the living wicked will be destroyed by the splendor of his Coming, and Israel will be restored in fulfillment of the promise in Deuteronomy 30:1-10.
