Questions about Acts 1:6-12

  1. What kingdom were the disciples expecting?
    1. The kingdom of God within you, that is, the Church.
      • No. They did not yet understand that there was going to be the hidden Church age before the kingdom would be restored to Israel. This is the age of the Gentile believer.
    2. The kingdom of heaven.
      • No. They were expecting an earthly kingdom.
    3. The invisible kingdom of God.
      • No. Like (a.) above they did not know that there was going to be the hidden Church age before the kingdom would be restored to Israel.
    4. Right Answer! The restoration of the kingdom of Israel; all twelve tribes.
      • Yes, in fulfillment of the prophecy of Moses in Deuteronomy 30:1-10 there will be an earthly kingdom in which all twelve tribes will be restored to the land. There are many references to this kingdom in the Old Testament prophecies. The apostles were fully convinced that Jesus was the promised Messiah. They knew also that the Messiah, or Christ, would come and reestablish the kingdom of Israel and reign as King over that kingdom. Jesus will in fact do just that, but at his Second Coming, not at his first. The apostles did not know that Jesus would come more that once. This was a mystery hidden during the Old Covenant.

  2. What did Jesus reply?
    1. The kingdom will not be restored to Israel.
      • Jesus did not say that the kingdom would not be reestablished.
    2. Right Answer!God has not chosen to tell you when he will restore the kingdom to Israel.
      • This is the correct answer. Jesus said that it was not God's will for them to know when the kingdom would be reestablished. Look carefully at the dialogue and see exactly what Jesus said. Jesus did not say that there was not going to be a kingdom of Israel. I have heard many times that Israel was rejected and that the blessings of the covenant were then given to the Church, and that there will not be a restoration of the kingdom to Israel, but this is not true. After the Church is taken in the "rapture" Israel will be the focus of God's work on the earth.
    3. The kingdom of Israel is now restored, and I am her king.
      • No, Jesus did not say that. Read the section carefully and see exactly what he did say.
    4. The Church is the new Israel and I have given her the keys to heaven; Israel is no more.
      • No. The Church is not the new Israel. The name Israel means literally "one who struggles with God." This is not a name for the Church. In Christ we have peace with God. Paul made this next statement to the Galatian Church and it has been greatly misunderstood.
      • Galatians 6:16
Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule, even to the Israel of God. (NIV)
      • The Church is not the new Israel. Paul said this because the Galatians were in grave danger with bad doctrine. They were struggling with grace and the law. I believe that he said this as a rebuke. Anyway, it is unscriptural to make a doctrine out of a single passage, so to say that the Church is the Israel of God because it appears only here is wrong.
      • 2 Corinthians 13:1
This will be my third visit to you. "Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." (NIV)
      • This is a sound Biblical principal, that is, having two or more witnesses in Scripture before establishing it as a Biblical truth.

  3. Who was Jesus speaking to?
    1. Right Answer!The Church.
      • Jesus was talking to the apostles, and or, the disciples, that is, to the Church. The promise of the Holy Spirit is only for the Church.
    2. The faithful in Israel.
      • No, he was talking of the receiving of the Holy Spirit, that can only mean the Church.
    3. The Jews.
      • No, for the same reason as (b.) above.
    4. The world.
      • No, for the same reason as (b.) above.

  4. From where was Jesus taken up into heaven?
    1. Galilee.
      • No, not Galilee.
    2. Bethlehem.
      • No, not Bethlehem.
    3. The Temple.
      • No, not from the Temple.
    4. Right Answer! The Mount of Olives.
      • Yes, verse 12 says that this all transpired on the Mount of Olives.

  5. Why are we told in verse twelve that they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives?
    1. It is just filler, that is, background color for the Bible reader.
      • No, there is no filler in the Bible. Every verse has importance.
    2. It is unimportant; just a random place.
      • No, every verse is important for something.
    3. So that we might know where he was risen from.
      • This is not the best answer.
    4. Right Answer! So that we might know where he shall return to.
      • Yes, it is important because he will return to the same place and in the same manner that he left. Knowing where he left from we can then understand that Zechariah 14:1-8 is talking of his return and exactly what he is going to do for Israel.

    Questions about Deuteronomy 30:1-10

  6. What did Moses say concerning Israel and the blessings and the curses?
    1. Right Answer!Israel would experience both the blessings and the curses of the law, and that after she considered all this she would repent and be restored in the Land that God gave them.
      • Yes. This must be clearly understood. Moses did not tell Israel that any of what was said MIGHT happen. He told them that it all would happen, and that after she considered all of it she would repent and come back to God with her whole heart. Moses said that they would be returned to the Promised Land and that they would be blessed. Moses told Israel that after she was restored to the Land that she would be more blessed than at any time before she was expelled from the land. This means that Israel during the Millennial Kingdom will have greater wealth that they experienced during the reign of King Solomon. Moses also told Israel that once they were restored to the land in fulfillment of this prophecy that they would never again be expelled. This tells us for certain that this prophecy has never been fulfilled.
    2. The curses might not ever come to Israel, because they might be good.
      • No. Look carefully at what Moses said. The question of whether or not the curses and blessings would come upon Israel was not in question. Moses said that AFTER all this had come upon them...
    3. The curses would come to Israel and they would be rejected and they could never come back; because of Israel's unbelief the blessings would be given to the church instead.
      • To listen to people in the church today you would think that this was the correct answer. Israel's rejection by God is temporary. The blessings that were to go to Israel were not then given to the Church. The blessings that were to go the Church have gone to the Church. The Church is not the new Israel. Israel will once again be restored to the land.
      • Romans 11:25-27
I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. 27 And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins." (NIV)
    4. Israel would experience both the blessings and the curses of the law, they would be restored to the land, but because they continued to rebel they would once and for all time be rejected and the blessed kingdom would be given to the Church.
      • No. Once this prophecy is fulfilled Israel will never again rebel. She shall be restored to the land with greater blessings than at any time in the past. Israel will be the premiere nation of the world. She shall be God's example of what a blesses nation can be.

  7. To what extent did God promise to restore Israel, after she experienced the curses of the law and were scattered throughout the furthermost lands of the earth?
    1. He promised to make them more prosperous than they were in Egypt.
      • This is not the best answer.
    2. He promised to make they healthy, wealthy, and wise.
      • This is true, but is not the best answer.
    3. Right Answer! He promised that they would be more wealthy after their restoration than they where during the reign of King Solomon.
      • Yes. This is important to take note of. Israel has never been more prosperous than at the time of King Solomon. This tells us that this prophecy has never been fulfilled. People that say that Israel was rejected and that the blessing that were to go the Israel went to the Church and that Israel is now forever rejected are wrong.
    4. He promised to give them back their land, but because of their continued rebellion they would never be the apple of his eye again.
      • No. Once this prophecy is fulfilled Israel will never again be rejected.

  8. The fulfillment of the prophecy to scatter them to the furthermost lands of the world saw its greatest fulfillment when?
    1. By the Assyrians in approximately 730 BC.
      • No. The Assyrians did not take all of the Israelites from the land, and they did not scatter them throughout the known world.
    2. By the Babylonians in approximately 600 BC.
      • No. The Babylonians did not scatter Israel throughout the known world.
    3. Right Answer!By the Romans in approximately 70 AD.
      • Yes. The Romans captured Israel in 70 AD and scattered them throughout their entire kingdom. It was Rome's intention that Israel never again be a people.
    4. By none of the above. All of the above are somewhat correct, but the best answer is c. (the Romans).

  9. When Israel is restored in fulfillment of this prophecy the following will be true.
    1. Never again will Israel be cast forth from the land.
      • This is true, but is not the best answer.
    2. Israel will have returned with their whole heart and soul.
      • This is true, but is not the best answer.
    3. Israel will have more wealth that they had under King Solomon.
      • This is true, but is not the best answer.
    4. Right Answer! All of the above.
      • Yes, all of these things were promised Israel by Moses in this prophecy.

    Questions about Revelation 5:1-5

  10. What is written on the scroll?
    1. What will happen if people don't repent.
      • No. What is written on the scroll is written. I will come to pass at the appointed time.
    2. One possible outcome for the earth.
      • No. What is written is written and it is exact. There is no room for variation in God's plan. This is sometimes hard to see and understand, but everything that ever happened to the World was predetermined by God, before he ever made anything of this creation. That is not to say that your destiny is preordained, because it is not. The plan is predestined, but what roles we shall play is up to us, (more or less.)
    3. Right Answer! What exactly is going to come upon the whole earth; period!
      • Yes, this is the correct answer. What is written is written. When the Lord breaks the seals and what is written starts to come to completion, then what was written before time began will come to pass.
    4. The contents of the scroll have not yet been written.
      • This is not true. The scroll was written and then sealed until the appointed time. We can see from the Scripture that it was written at least before Jesus was found to be worthy of opening the scroll, so we know that it is at least that old. From looking at the sum total of Scripture we can understand that the whole plan was laid out by God before any of it was set into motion.

  11. When will the seals be broken and the contents of the scroll will be fulfilled?
    1. No one knows.
      • No PERSON knows, but God knows.
    2. In the year 2034 AD.
      • We have no reason to believe that this date is correct.
    3. Seven years after the year 2000.
      • No. I just thought that date sounded good.
    4. Right Answer! At the exact time and day that the Lord determined before the creation.
      • Yes, God knows the exact time and date of everything in his plan.
      • Matthew 24:36
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. (NIV)
      • Revelation 9:15
And the four angels who had been kept ready for this very hour and day and month and year were released to kill a third of mankind. (NIV)

  12. Who is able to open the scroll?
    1. Jesse, the father of David.
      • No Jesse is dead and buried.
    2. Solomon, the son of David.
      • No, it is not King Solomon. He too is dead and buried.
    3. Right Answer!Jesus, the son of David and the father of David.
      • Yes. Jesus is both the son of David and the root of David. His body physically descended from David, but his spirit was from everlasting to everlasting.
    4. David will come back to life and open the scroll.
      • No. David will not come back. He died and was buried and as the Scriptures point out he tome and body was with the disciples in the Book of Acts.

      • Revelation 10:1-11
Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. 2 He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3 and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke. 4 And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, "Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down."
5 Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. 6 And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, "There will be no more delay! 7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets."
8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: "Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land."
9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, "Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey." 10 I took the little scroll from the angel's hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11 Then I was told, "You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings." (NIV)
      • This scroll talks of the Lord's return and is both sweet and bitter.
