Questions about 1 Corinthians 15:50-57

  1. What is the name for the event described in this passage?
    1. The Rapture.
    2. The Catching-up of the Church.
    3. Our being gathered to the Lord.
    4. Right Answer! All of the above.
      • Yes, all of the above. The name "rapture" is in the Latin Bible only, and is the most popular name for the gathering of the church. I understand that the word 'rapture' means to snatch up quickly, that this is a good description of what will take place. Paul describes the event as taking place in 'the twinkling of an eye' so I guess that it is pretty fast.

  2. What will happen just before the gathering of the Body of Christ?
    1. The Rapture.
      • No the Rapture is just another name for the gathering of the body of Christ.
    2. The First Resurrection.
      • No, the First Resurrection occurs three and a half years after the gathering of the body of Christ.
    3. The Last Day.
      • No, the last day occurs more than a thousand years after.
    4. Right Answer! The trumpet would sound.
      • Yes, the event that takes place just before is that the trumpet will sound in heaven, that is, the last trumpet of the series of seven trumpets.

  3. Which trumpet will sound.
    1. Gabriel's trumpet?
      • I don't know if Gabriel's even has a trumpet, I put that in because it sounded good.
    2. Right Answer!The last trumpet.
      • Yes, Paul said that it was at the last trumpet that the gathering would happen. Now if it is the last then this means that there are more trumpets before it that sound for different reasons. As it turns out the trumpet that announces the catching-up of the Church is the seventh trumpet sounded in Revelation. The seventh trumpet announces the Coming of the Lord from heaven, so it stands to reason that when he comes then he will gather is body in keeping with his promise in John 14:1-3.
    3. The trumpet of Gilead.
      • No, but it sounds good.

  4. What is meant by the last trumpet?
    1. Never again will music instruments be sounded in joy.
      • No, it doesn't mean that. There will be many joyous times to come.
    2. Trumpet will have been sounding endlessly, but at the Catching-up of the Church they will stop.
      • This is not true. There will be seven trumpets sounded, the last just before the church is gathered.
    3. Right Answer! There is a series of seven trumpets in the book of Revelation and the sounding of the last trumpet, the seventh, announces the return of the Lord, and therefore the gathering of the body.
      • Yes.
    4. The gathering of the Church is so important to God that he will forbid any more trumpet blasts so that people will remember for all time this stupendous event.
      • No. The Bible doesn't say anything like that.

  5. What does Paul mean in verse 1 Corinthians 15:51 when he says that we shall not all sleep?
    1. The noise of the trumpet will resound though out the whole world with such power and energy that most people will be awake and unable to sleep.
      • No, it doesn't mean anything like that.
    2. The most devout Christians do not need sleep, they pray all night, every night.
      • Everybody needs sleep, devout Christian or not.
    3. Right Answer!Paul is talking about the fact that some Christians will be alive at the Coming of the Lord, and they will be caught-up with those that have died in Christ in the past.
      • Yes, this is the best answer.
      • John 11:11-15
After he had said this, he went on to tell them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up."
12 His disciples replied, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better." 13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.
14 So then he told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead, 15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him." (NIV)
    4. Those people that are "awake" are those that have not forgotten their duties as followers of Christ, and they will surly be taken to be with the Lord forever.
      • We are told to keep awake, but this is not literal. As Christians we are always to keep in the forefront of our thinking our awareness of our responsibilities as followers of Christ.

  6. What will happen to Christians whose bodies had been cremated at death?
    1. They will be eternally lost, because they do not have bodies that can be changed into imperishable and immortal bodies.
      • No. God doesn't need our old bodies; he will give us a new body that is not made our of atoms and such.
    2. They will be left behind because they did not do the Christian thing with their remains.
      • No. Following traditions will not make any difference.
    3. Right Answer! It will not matter at all, God will give each and every Christian a brand new spiritual body.
      • Yes.
    4. They will still get to go to heaven, but without a body.
      • This Bible doesn't say anything like this.

  7. What does it mean that death is swallowed up in victory?
    1. Right Answer! It means that those that are alive in the body need never see physical death.
      • This is the best answer. After this day many will die, but strictly speaking they need not. We are told directly that those of the First Resurrection will live a thousand years. Also look at this Scripture that is speaking of the time after the Rapture, (during the Millennial Kingdom Age.)
      • Isaiah 65:20, 22
"Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed.
22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. (NIV)
    2. It means that this is the last day and everyone must face their maker, some receive eternal rewards, and others eternal torment.
      • No. The Millennial Kingdom Age will occur after this.
    3. It means that on that same day Satan will die.
      • No. We are told in Scripture that at the sounding of the last trumpet Satan is cast out of heaven down to the earth and he will be there for three and a half years, then he will be captured and locked in Hell for a thousand years. So this can hardly be the last day.
    4. All of the above.
      • No, (a.) above is the best.
