Questions about Revelation 11:1-14

  1. For how long will the two witnesses minister?
    1. 1260 days.
    2. 42 months.
    3. Three and a half years.
    4. For a time, times and half a time.
    5. Right Answer! All of the above.
      • Yes, all of the above. These are four ways the Bible prophecies say the same thing. God has hidden the truth in many and varied way. This is just one such way of making it a little harder to see what is going on, and yet once you see it it is simple to see and understand.

  2. These two witnesses are what?
    1. Apostles.
      • Never does the Bible say that they are apostles.
    2. Prophets.
      • Yes, the text here calls them prophets, but this is not the best answer.
    3. Christians.
      • Yes, they are Christians, that is, they are indwelled by the Holy Spirit; they operate before the Church is taken up, so they are Christians. People who believe in Jesus Christ after the church is gathered are saints, like Christians, but they are not Christians. Christians only exist on earth in human bodies during the Church Age.
    4. False prophets.
      • No, they are certainly not false prophets.
    5. Right Answer!Both (b.) and (c.) above.
      • Yes, this is the best answer. Please read both (b.) and (c.) above.
    6. None of the above.
      • No, both (b.) and (c.) above are correct.

  3. Who is the one that kills the two witnesses?
    1. The Antichrist.
    2. The beast.
    3. Satan.
    4. Right Answer! All of the above.
      • Yes, all three play a part in their death. Satan is the power behind the Antichrist and the beast. The Antichrist and the beast are in a way the same person, but that is covered in another study.

  4. Where does it say that the beast comes from?
    1. Right Answer! The Abyss, or Hell.
      • Yes. I know that it is strange, but he comes from Hell, or the Abyss.
    2. It doesn't say.
      • No, the text does say.
    3. From Rome.
      • No, not from Rome.
    4. d. From the North.
      • No.

  5. The beast is thrown into the lake of fire at the end of the seven year period, and it is said in Revelation 13 that the beast has been given authority for three and a half years, so what does that tell us about when the two witnesses could not have died?
    1. Right Answer! They could not have died during the last three and a half years.
      • No, based upon that one piece of information they could have died anytime during the last three and half years, however with further information we can determine that they did in fact die right at the midpoint of the seven year period.
    2. They could not have died during the first three and a half years.
      • Yes, we can positively state that. Since the beast operates for only three and a half years, and he is killed at the end of the seven years, then he could not have killed them during the first three and a half years because he was still in the Abyss then.

  6. How is it possible for people from every people, tribe, language and nation, gaze upon the bodies of the two witnesses for three and a half days?
    1. Right Answer!Their bodies will be televised.
      • Yes, this is possible.
    2. This is only symbolic language, it means that only the people in Jerusalem will see their bodies.
      • No, the text is clear, people from all around the world see them.

  7. After the two witnesses got up on their feet, what happened to them?
    1. They vanished instantly and without a trace.
      • Well, sort of. This is not the best answer. After they stood up on their feet they heard a voice from heaven and looked up. Also I believe Enoch to be one of the two witnesses because of this next passage.
      • Jude 14-15
Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men: "See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones 15 to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him." (NIV)
      • Think about what this means. We know from Genesis chapter five that Enoch did not die, but what taken up into heaven. Having not died he could come and live again, much like the Bible says the John the Baptist was Elijah, who also did not die, but was taken up.
      • Also think about what Enoch is saying in the above passage. He is seeing the Lord coming in the clouds, (thousands upon thousands of his holy ones). Now if he was still in heaven how could he see the Lord coming. Would he not then be coming with the Lord?
      • No, Enoch is one of the two witnesses, and after he was dead for three and a half days, he came back to life, and heard a voice and looked up, and said the above statement.
    2. Right Answer! They were caught-up in the "Rapture."
      • Yes, this is what happened. They were taken up after the abomination that causes desolation sign, like Paul said in 2 Thessalonians 2:3, and three and a half years before the end of the seven years, right after the beast came up out of the Abyss.
    3. The eyes of the onlookers were temporally blinded and they left unseen.
      • No, it doesn't say anything like that.
    4. Nothing really happened. This is just the Bible's way of saying that good people go to heaven.
      • No, this is not spoken of in symbolic language. It is all very literal. Things will happen just they say they look here in Revelation.

  8. The last tree trumpet blasts are also called what?
    1. Plagues.
      • No.
    2. Bowls of God's Wrath.
      • No.
    3. Toots.
      • No. Toots! Can you imagine?
    4. Right Answer!Woes.
      • Yes.
      • Revelation 8:13
"Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!" (NIV)

  9. 9. What is the significance of the statement in Revelation 11:14 that says, "The second woe has passed; the third woe is coming soon", ?
    1. Right Answer! It is there so that we can know that the two witnesses died just before the start of the last three and a half years, that is, before the Day of the Lord.
      • Yes, we know that the Lord comes from heaven at the midpoint of the seven years, because he comes right after Satan is cast down. We know that Satan is cast down at the midpoint because he is cast out of heaven in Revelation 12:9 and when he is cast down he goes after the Woman in Revelation 12:13, and the woman is hidden for three and a half years. Then as the revelation unfolds we see in Revelation 13:1 that Satan watches the Beast coming out of the sea, and we see that Satan gives the beast power for three and a half years. Now all of this happens AFTER the last woe is finished, (Revelation 11:14.)
      • Therefore, if three and a half years remain after the second woe finished, and the two witnesses preach for three and a half years then they HAD to start at the start of the seven year period.
      • Again:
      • The two witnesses start preaching.
      • Three and a half years later they are killed by the beast.
      • At the time of their death/rapture Satan is cast down and the Lord comes.
      • Satan then empowers the beast for three and a half years.
    2. It's just there; it doesn't mean anything.
      • Everything in the Bible is important. If the Bible says something, then we need to pray and ask God to reveal what it means.
    3. The Bible is from the poetic era, things are said so that they sound colorful.
      • No, Read both (a.) and (b.) above.

  10. Now, since the two witnesses are preaching before the Church is taken up into heaven, what message is it likely that they are preaching in Jerusalem just before they are killed?
    1. That Jesus is the Christ, and that he is Coming soon.
    2. That the true Church is going to be taken very soon.
    3. That Israel must repent and receive Jesus Christ as their one and true God.
    4. Right Answer! All of the above.
      • Yes.

  11. Who are those that were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven after the rapture?
    1. The beast and his army that are in Jerusalem.
      • No the beast and his army never give glory to God.
    2. The people of the world that have been watching events unfold on the television.
      • No the people of the world are stunned and terrified, but that do not give glory to God.
    3. Right Answer! The Israelites that had been listening to the two witnesses preach, and now believe the message and now understand the terror that has come upon the world.
      • Yes, the Israelites.
      • Romans 11:25-28
I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. 27 And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins."
28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, (NIV)
      • Do you see? When the last person comes into the Church, the church will be taken, and this shocks Israel into believing. Then is fulfilled "and so all Israel will be saved."

  12. The two witnesses preach during which half of the seven year period?
    1. Right Answer!The first half.
      • Yes, see (9a) above.
    2. The second half
      • No it cannot be during the second half.
